the science behind fine scratches:
Scratches are seen in yours vehicles paintwork because they disrupt the smooth, reflective surface, causing light to scatter or bounce in a different way.
This creates a localised area of reduced reflectivity, which the eye perceives as a lighter spot, a different colour, or a scratch.
To visibly remove this uneven appearance the edges of the scratch need to be smoothed down, creating less of a disrupted surface and therefore making the paint appear smooth and reflective again.
There are a few types of scratches on vehicles, clear coat, base coat, primer and metal scratches. Clear coat and base coat scratches can be removed with varying degrees of polishing and sanding, unfortunately primer and metal scratches go too deep to remove with detailing alone, and require touch up paint or professional resprays.
A good general test to see if your scratch is too deep for a detail repair is to run your nail across the scratch, if your finger nail gets caught in the scratched area, generally that scratch is down to primer level, if it just nicks the edge of the scratch, you could get away with sanding and polishing it out.
why SCRATCH REPAIR is important:
Better Appearance: Clean, polished paint instantly enhance your car’s look.
Resale value: Marks or blemishes on the paint reduce your cars resale value drastically.
Longevity: Polished and sealed paint, will favour better in the elements, against unprotected, damaged paintwork.
